Experience List:
1️⃣ Test Scores:
Listening: 11
Reading: 11
Writing: 8
Speaking: 8
2️⃣ Test Details:
Test center: Apricot Tower, Dubai.
Test date: Saturday evening.
Results received: Tuesday morning.
3️⃣ Background:
Previously attempted IELTS General twice, with an overall band score of 7, but needed CLB 9 in all four skills.
For IELTS, studied intermittently for several months, managing time between work and childcare.
For CELPIP, studied intensively for one month, dedicating long hours.
4️⃣ Study Resources:
Used MAD English YouTube videos, sample questions from CELPIP Hub, and CELPIP's official materials (PDF versions).
Used ChatGPT for vocabulary improvement (Reading and Listening) and Writing enhancements.
Practiced Speaking with an IELTS mentor.
Listened to CBC Listen during downtime.
5️⃣ Test Center Experience:
Test cost: $340 CAD (including tax).
Small test room with fewer than 10 people. Thick partitions helped reduce noise, and earplugs were allowed.
No food or drink allowed, but water and restroom breaks were permitted during the Writing section.
Test center temperature was warm due to limited airflow, but dressing in layers helped.
6️⃣ Challenges for Non-Residents:
For candidates traveling from abroad (e.g., Iran), the experience can be tough. Prepare as if aiming for CLB 9, even if CLB 7 is your goal.
Continuous tasks without breaks cause fatigue, especially when taking the test during non-optimal hours like Saturday evenings.
Staying in hotels and dealing with travel challenges can affect physical and mental readiness.
7️⃣ Observations About the Test:
Listening and Reading scores are often better than expected, even if they feel challenging during the test.
Writing is easier to score compared to IELTS.
Speaking might feel more challenging; system issues or unexpected interruptions could affect performance.
8️⃣ Advice:
Analyze and practice CELPIP-style questions thoroughly to gain confidence and reduce stress.
For travelers, be prepared for the added fatigue and ensure proper planning for comfort during the test.
If you miss your target score, CELPIP may still be more accessible for CLB 9 than IELTS.
9️⃣ Conclusion:
Despite the challenges of traveling and the test itself, CELPIP provided better opportunities to achieve a higher score compared to IELTS.
Special thanks to the CELPIP Hub support team and group members for sharing experiences and answering questions. Sharing your own experience can be highly beneficial to others.
