1. My Background
Took the Cambridge C2 Proficiency Exam in 2017 and passed with strong scores.
Studied my bachelor’s degree in English.
Required to take TOEFL for my master’s because my C2 certification was considered outdated.
Had only one week to prepare with a minimum score requirement of 95.
2. My TOEFL Results
Overall Score: 107
Reading: 30/30
Listening: 30/30
Writing: 25/30
Speaking: 22/30
3. Preparation Strategy
Limited Study Time: Only did a few practice tests and watched YouTube strategy videos.
Self-Assessment:
Took a practice test without a time limit to gauge my performance.
If you already have a strong English level, focus only on Writing & Speaking.
4. Reading Section Tips (30/30)
Do NOT read the full passage first!
Read:
The introduction
The first sentence of each paragraph
(Optional) The last paragraph
Then, go straight to the questions—this saves time and helps answer faster.
5. Listening Section Tips (30/30)
Pay close attention, and you should score near-perfect without much prep.
If you already understand spoken English well, this part should be straightforward.
6. Writing Section Tips (25/30)
Follow the same structured approach as C2 writing.
Use advanced vocabulary and ensure your argument is clear.
I didn’t practice much—just focused on structure and vocabulary quality.
7. Speaking Section Tips (22/30)
I didn’t plan this section well, which affected my score.
Even though I struggled with one question, the grading seemed lenient.
Research different speaking strategies online if you want to ensure a higher score.
8. Final Thoughts
TOEFL is much easier than the C2 exam.
Minimal preparation is enough if you already have a strong English background.
I had only two days of preparation and still managed to enjoy leisure activities like karting, going to the beach, and having beers.
Don’t stress too much—you’ve got this!
